We discovered Dr. Reed and his fields of daffodils by happenstance on 4/23/06. His fields are bordered by a windbreak of pines, but they do little to conceal the acres of color. Dr. Reed is a grower of bulbs for customers worldwide. He is a surgeon in the Michiana area. His flower business grew out of a hobby that flowered to become reknown by discriminating collectors. He hosts garden shows and buyers come to select among the many varieties of daffodils and tulips (and maybe more, we only toured one 10 acre plot), many that are his own hybrids. He has solid whites, solid yellow, cluster type, doubles, multicolors, etc. I am only a layman when it comes to bulbs, but even my untrained eye could see that I was observing outstanding quality. We dropped in and not only did Dr. Reed take the time to show us around, he offered free bulbs in exchange for digging and free flowers to take home. His passion for art through flowers and dedication to purity of breed were evident.
