Brugmansia Plant Rubirosa

Approx 20" tall.

Not since the advent of Brugmansia Mountain Magic has a Brugmansia exhibited as lovely form, color or stamina as Rubirosa. The plant itself is fast growing and will assume tree form very quickly. Leaves are large and deep green. We have had no problems with insects at all! This includes broad mites or spider mites! Bliss! The crowing achievement here is the flower. It begins as a soft pink, rouges to medium rose, and matures to a very deep and arresting rose/chianti color. Tendrils are very long, elegant and are fitting termination to her gently undulating trumpet. She's a big and wide flower - almost 15" from stem to tendril and 8 to 10" in diameter. Just for fun, I snapped a night time shot of her lit from within by a flash beam. I think you'll agree the effect is stunning...which leads me to believe permanent lighting placed beneath her will be a magical sight on a cool evening when she's at her apex and fully flushed.

This Brugmansia is a tribute to her hybridizer. Plants of this quality do not just happen. They are the result of careful planning and skills developed over a lifetime of dedication to a singular elegance. It is obvious that this Brugmansia, with it's stellar characteristics will be an important addition to any Brugmansia owner, collector or hybridizer's stable.

We've found that she's a semi-shade lover here in Florida where summer sun is blisteringly hot. Sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon is the rule here. If you're into serious breeding this girl is essential. Personally, I prize her pollen and use it liberally for coloring up other Brugs that might benefit from her dusky coloring. She gobbles up pollen and produces fat, fat, fat pods heavily laden with equally fat seeds! The best time to photograph her is shortly before sundown or before a rain storm, as her red undertones become gem-like. With little maintenance other than a good drink each day, she grew steadily and produced some of the loveliest blossoms we've seen to date. Photos depict how dark these flowers can become under ideal conditions! Zone 9-10.

An exceptional Brugmansia.

The plant offered is approx. 20" tall, fully rooted in a 6" pot (shipped out of pot). Leaves will be trimmed before shipping.

We do not ship bare root Brugmansia or cuttings. We ship Brugmansia in their own pot and soil when possible. Stripping soil from the rootball causes stress and inhibits growth long after repotting. This is especially stressful when the plant is shipped during the Summer. Unless cuttings have :nubbies: (small raised bumps on the stem) and are at least as thick as your thumb and 8 to 10 inches tall, attempting rooting may fail. We want you to receive a fully rooted plant living in it's own environment and ready to become a thriving member of your garden.
