Freesia laxa ssp azurea (blue) 25+ seeds

This form of Freesia laxa is a rare find with pale lilac-blue blooms with a darker purplish-maroon blotch. In all aspects, its care is the same as for the Freesia laxa red or white form; except it blooms earlier, beginning mid-January for us. This little gem is rarely found offered in the United States; and although some say it's not as easy to grow as the other Freesia laxa's, we have not found that to be true. It's actually the most cold hardy and earliest bloomer of any of our Freesia laxa's.

All the Freesia laxa’s are native to South Africa but have naturalized in old homesteads from Florida throughout the lower Gulf Coast States. Freesia laxa has been in cultivation for 200 years; but is rarely seen in commerce today, although it is an extremely reliable naturalized bulb in our gardens. It seems not to be bothered by either moisture or dryness during its dormancy; but appreciates ample moisture during active growth and a well draining soil. This underused little beauty is a rapid reproducer and one of our favorite early spring bulbs! It grows well in full sun to partial shade and is recommended for zones 8b-11.

These seeds are very fresh, harvested in spring 2008. These are the same seeds we use to grow the bulbs we sell. Each packet will contain 25+ seeds and they will bloom in one year from seed. They are excellent for containers, too; and this means they can be grown in zones lower than 8b with adequate winter protection. All seed orders are sent with detailed instructions for germination and growth.

Shipping to the USA is $2.50 in padded bubble mailers with delivery confirmation included in this shipping charge; and multiple seed packets (unlimited numbers) can be included at no extra shipping charge. We have shipped international from the Ukraine to Argentina to Australia to New Zealand, with no problems—the exception being Canada. International shipping is $4.00 USD. Please dmail us for PayPal instructions. We ship on Mondays/Tuesdays.

We accept MasterCard and Visa through PayPal, and PayPal. We also accept USPS postal money orders, but only USPS postal money orders.Payment arrangements must be made within 24 hours of order placement.

Be aware that only internal DG emails are used for the MarketPlace, you will not receive a regular email about sales on the MarketPlace. I am sorry, but I cannot hold items if I don't have a response within 24 hours.
