** This item is no longer available ** Gâc (Momordica cochinchinesis, Vietnamese Gâc, Baby Jackfruit, Spiny Bitter Gourd, Sweet Gourd, Cochinchin Gourd, Spiny Cucumber, Balsampear) This listing is for 10 (ten) fresh Momordica cochinchinesis seeds. Harvested in 2008, these seeds have shown an 80+% germination rate. Shipping Cost: First Class Mail - $2.00 (add $0.50 for each additional item) Priority Mail - $4.95 (add $1.00 for each additional item)
Upon arrival, seeds should be soaked for 24 hours in either warm water or hydrogen peroxide and then planted (stick them half-way down) in well-drained soil. It is best to use a soil with a high perlite content. Once seeds have been soaked, one end will have a noticeable opening (through which the young plant will emerge); the end with the opening should face down when planted. Gâc is an easy and vigorous grower; perfect for children and novice gardners. While germinating, seeds should be placed in a warm, bright location and misted 3 or 4 times a day to ensure they do not dry out (we use an old lighted aquarium). Within about a week, you should notice the seeds swelling and splitting open as the root emerges. Gâc is a bright-red fruit covered with short spines. It is a non-invasive, mildly drought-resistant, vigorous tropical vine, hardy to about 10 degrees F. Gâc is rich in antioxidants and has been grown for generations as both a traditional holiday fruit and as a medicinal plant. Gâc plants will be either male or female. We have no control over the sex of germinated seed plants, but are offering 10 seeds to ensure enough male and female plants to bear fruit. Please read the item description BEFORE you buy anything!
