A favorite in the old fashioned garden, and a tradition in the English Garden, Sweet William Dianthus is grown for its clusters of small, perfectly formed flowers with fringed petals in a range of pink and purple.
Blooms are often bi-colored and shades can vary widely from dark reddish burgundies to pastel whites. Sweet William blooms late spring through summer.
Dark green foliage grows in low mounds and is grass like in texture. And the plant easily reseeds.
This plant has been around for ages and has withstood the test of time, easy to grow and non demanding Sweet William Dianthus is perfect in containers and equally at home in the rock garden or border...mass plantings of 5 or more are spectacular!
Sweet William Dianthus also has a delicious clove like fragrance, spicy and distinctive. Butterflies love this flower, so plan on having some company in the garden!
Excellent cut flower and long lived with a vas 1e life of 7 to0 days. Also lovely as a dried flower or for potpourri...make sure to grow extra for cutting!
