This place was a horse farm. The pond was enclosed by multiflora roses and the field filled with
weeds. My Dad helped me dig out the area around the fence to put in my first garden. This
shows the area in ~Jun 1999 (I couldn't get the date to go back earlier).

The pond is spring fed. The stone building here is the spring house. Inside is a large cement
cistern used to keep things cold before there was refridgeration. It was built in the mid 1800's
and creates a wonderful garden foil. The spring emerges from the base of the spring house
and has provided moist boggy areas to plant with primulas and other such treasures.
