Fire Flash Mandarin PlantOne survived and today this is what I have growing
This cool houseplant was discovered in Thailand just a few years ago. It's rarely found in nurseries, but extremely easy to grow.
Mandarin Plant is cousin to common spider plant, but it has spectacular foliage - shiny green leaves with glowing orange stems. It's especially attractive from above, gorgeous from any angle, and is delightfully undemanding.
Native to the rain forests of East Africa, Mandarin Plant thrives in shade gardens in warm zones 9-10 and is perfectly happy indoors. Like spider plants, it tolerates most conditions, prefers bright indirect light and a deep watering when dry. It doesn't attract bugs or get diseases and it hates chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Just give it good potting soil, a good soak once a week, and leave it alone.
Mandarin Plant is a great shade plant for warm climates, makes a beautiful border, and is a natural for containers. Sow seeds in a good potting mix, barely cover, keep them warm and moist. They'll sprout in no time.
‘Fire Flash’, commonly known as orange spider plant, is an evergreen tropical perennial that is in fact very ornamentally attractive. It typically matures to 12” tall when grown indoors as a houseplant, but will rise to as much as 24” tall when grown outdoors. Broad, ovate-lanceolate, pointed, shiny dark green leaves (to 12” long) appear in rosettes. This green plant foliage is highlighted, however, by contrasting bright orange petioles and leaf midribs which bring an orange fire-like glow to the center of each plant, hence the cultivar name of ‘Fire Flash’. White flowers bloom in dense, cylindrical, outward-arching panicles. Flowers are not particularly showy and last only one week.

Spider Plant 'Ocean' - Amazon - Chlorophytum comosum,ordered 9GreenBox - Ocean Spider Plant - Easy to Grow - Cleans the Air - NEW - 2 Pack10.99 received 11/2/15
Description copied from Amazon: Ocean is a new spider plant with more white in the leaves and white flowers on long stems that seem to dance in the air. Spider Plants make excellent house plants or indoor plants as they are not only such easy-growing plants but have beneficial properties in cleansing the air of pollutants, especially formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. As it tolerates artificial lighting very well and has air purifying abilities, it's most ideal in office environment where electronic pollutants are emitted. Requires bright light or filtered sunlight for best growth and vibrant leaf colors. Never locate Spider Plants in full sun that will scorch their foliage. Remove yellow or dried leaves to keep it tidy. Fertilize sparingly as excess nutrients can retard its ability to produce more plantlets.
