Pulled Up PlantsToday I went to get my earthbox, but it was full of water and I had to drain it before I could take it with me. Also picked more sugar snap peas and snow peas.
Pole beans have flower buds on them.
I pulled up the cauliflower and cabbage, as it was time for them to go. Also collected the rest of the onions that were planted back there.
Must get self watering container and earthbox asap.

UpdateI harvested a couple more handfuls of sugar snap peas and snow peas. I also watered containers as they were very dry. Everything looks good though. Pole beans have flower buds all-over.
Onions and garlic are looking good, and collard pot and chard/lettuce pot looks great as well.

Removed PlantsToday I removed my rosemary bush and temporarily planted it in a pot. I also harvested a nice amount of snow peas and sugar snap peas.
I wrapped the cauliflower with the outer leaves to "blanch" them, and I also removed my African fish pepper and put it temporarily in a container. I will move it to my garden.
I also removed my empty containers I had over there, as well as my empty strawberry planter.

Started New PlanterToday I created a new "Italian" planter in Andy's yard. I used one of my large 18" planters and planted the following:
1 - Brandywine Tomato
1 - Better Boy Bell Pepper
1 - Anaheim Pepper
1 - Celery
6 - Scallions
Basil seeds and Italian Parsley seeds were planted around the perimeter of the pot.
This is my first in what I hope to be a "series" of themed pots.
I used my own potting mix of Supersoil, Sphagnum peat moss & perlite. I mixed in Osmocote fertilizer and topped it off with more Osmocote.
I also, started a pot of Purple Dragon Carrots, added more potting mix to the wood planter and roses, and weeded the raised bed.
Will do more tomorrow.

GeneralI bought a lemon tree and a Rio Red Grapefruit tree a while ago, some time in February. The grapefruit was $20. and the lemon I got at Lowe's for only $9.99. Both are doing well. I planted them in 2 planters I got at Sam's club for $9.88 each. They are 18" large with a decorative scroll and made of that stone looking material. Around the base of the trees, I planted some lettuce.
All of the tomato so far are doing well. We have had a lot of rain and the prarie fire look like the leaf mold has come back so I need to spray with the soap solution. the brussel sprouts I planted look good as does the broccoli.
The early cabbage are growing and the red cabbage is still doing well. The celery is outstanding, and i cut down a bunch of it to allow the little tomato plant next to it to get some sun. I found a snail eatting up my celery leaves.
I also planted a rose bush, but ran out of potting mix and need to get more.

Heads have finally formed. Also, celery is doing amazing! It is soo big it looks great. Tomatoes in containers are doing well also, but still having a problem with leaf spot.

Fall Crop StatusBeans, beans and more beans. I have string beans growing all over the place. It been a great crop from only six or so plants. I pulled up one of the green onions today, as they are finally ready. Cucumbers have also been coming steadily, will plant a couple of more plants to get a better crop for pickles.
Green peppers finally producing larger bell peppers. I also have lots of anaheims and chile rellenos growing well. The african bird pepper is doing outstanding in the wood planter I built.
The black cherry tomato i planted in the self watering pot from Walmart is doing outstanding. It is 4 times the size of the tomatoes planted in the ground. I put black plastic on top of the soil like an earth box and it is growing out of control.
I planted a prarie fire tomato in a 5 gal pail. It has two tiny tomatoes on it already.

FallPlanted fall crop a few weeks ago. I didn't realize how long its been since I have made a diary entry. Today I picked about a pound and a half of string beans (Kentucky Wonder Pole Beans). They are doing great despite the powdery mildew problem on the leaves. They are producing tons of beans, and I have a lot more still on the vines after todays harvest. I also picked another cucumber, and still have plenty of those growing as well.
I dug up and tossed the sunflowers today as they were all dried up. I didn't get any seeds though, which was disappointing.
I also picked some san marzano tomatoes, I don't know if I like growing these so much. The ones in my purchased EB got lots of mildew on the leaves after all of the rain we had.
Zucchini - I dug up all of the plants as they were overcome with powdery mildew and grew too large. Will try to find a bush variety for next year.

First CucumberToday on my way to the show, I stopped to water the garden and found my first Marketmore cucumber. Its about 8.5" long and 3" in diameter. There are about 2 dozen more and the cukes have out grown the 8 foot stake. Need to build trellis. Also picked another Limmony tomato, but a bird got to it first.

Planted Wooden PlanterWent to Home Depot and got Supersoil for big wood planter. Used 2 2/3 bags mixed with perlite, lime & osmocote. Added only peppers so far:
2 - Anaheim
1 - African Fish Pepper
1- Tequila Sunrise Pepper
1- Hungarian Black
All of these were purchased from Goto Nursery for $1.50. They are not in the best of shape. Most of them the leaves are very curved upward, they deperately need calcium & osmocote.
Also planted in the Raised bed, 1 Anaheim & 1 Pasilla Pepper purchased from Home Depot for $2.49 per 4 pack. Again, these are not in the best of shape, I found them under the table not getting any sun.

EarthboxPotted my San Marzano tomato along with 1 Beefsteak seedling. Watered entire garden really really well, being carefull to only water at the base of the plants and not the leaves. Added Osmocote fertilizer and poured the rest of the bag of compost over everything. Moved wooden planter from my balcony to the backyard. Will plant in there as well.

Planted Bush Tomatoes from BalconyToday I went to my garden at Andy's and took my hanging basket of cucumbers (spacemaster bush) and planted them in the ground. Removed dead leaves & saw powdery mildew on a couple of other leaves and removed those as well. I staked the spacemasters with 2 five foot tall bamboo stakes as it had a lot of baby cucumbers growing on it. Also planted new cucumber seedling I started & put plastic bottle on top. I removed the plastic bottles from the sunflower & staked it with a 3' bamboo stake. Removed plastic bottle from canteloupe melon seedlings. They look really good and healthy. Limmony tomato has 3 open flowers on it. Green bell peppers in front that I picked fruit from look good, and I watered everything well. Sprayed all of the plants with foliar spray I got from Gurneys. Not that impressed with Gurney products though.
