Echinacea Plugs - re. this winter for Z5

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

I bought quite a few Ech. plugs this year and I potted them up and they've been growing nicely. I was going to plant them next month or when it cools down.
Any advice from Z5 gardeners on how hardy plugs are getting through the winter.

***Also do I dare buy any plugs in Sept. or am I pushing it since they won't have much time to grow.

I started some Ech. last year from seed and they were quite small going into winter but most of them survived with only snow cover for protection so I'm hoping this means they are pretty hardy.
