Autumn Diversions Continued

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7b)

I feel for you Jude, but I think the creative denial of "some" members of this forum would keep the designation of Fall until the Solstice on Dec 21 when it officially becomes ... Spring because the days are getting longer then. Its kind of like the use of Voldemort - "the season that must not be named."

Ennis, MT(Zone 4a)

Jude, you are hot there, it finally got up to zero here. Was ten below this a.m.

I think the thread actually started in fall, but winter certainly has landed in the middle of it. When this one gets a tad longer we could go to the next one and title it Winter Diversions. Or just do it now, if someone feels ambitious.

I can't imagine why dparsons might think anyone in this forum might be in denial... ;-)

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL, DwiD, creative denial can come in handy sometimes. Here in the four corners area we have begun to get dumped on... about 3 inches so far but they say it will continue until tomorrow evening.

A certain orange cat decided that he absolutely had to go outside this morning. It lasted about 10 minutes.

It has been snowing lightly on and off since noon here. Currently a balmy 35 degrees at La Casa Roybird. I am ready for the solstice. Bring it on!

Carson City, NV(Zone 6b)

After that it was time to take a nap.

Katlian, that's great! Too funny.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7b)

I've felt like that myself, Katlian. The weather is nasty, but I've been inside quite long enough. My cats prefer to pee outside, so they have quite a quandary when there is snow on the ground.

No snow here yet, but thank you all for letting me know whats coming. The clouds are getting thicker.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Kaitlin - so cute! My kitties have been alternating between sluggish sleeping and wanting cuddle time. I may just crawl back into bed for a while and indulge them in cuddles. It feels like a good day to do so.

Ennis, MT(Zone 4a)

Katlian,
That is too funny!

Our old dog went outside this morning and decided ten below was ridiculous. She lay down, rolled over on her back, and stuck her feet in the air so she did not have to touch the icy snow with them. A recurrent behavior at these temperatures.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

awwww smart kitties katlian. The crazy ole cat jumps outside and then hops around and howls cuz his feets hurt. He just can n't roll over and put his feets in the air because EEK! the snow would muss his furr which would then require a complete bath.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

of course rolling around in the dirt and leaves in the summer is just fine and never requires a bath but that awefully messy snow is a whooooooole different story. Snorkle.

Helena, MT(Zone 4b)

I'll have to ask Piper if she's tried that, Mulch.
She has not had her morning walk, as it still hasn't gotten up to zero. Grrrrrrr. Someone is getting antsy.

LOL, those kitties are so adorable!

Ennis, MT(Zone 4a)

Crazy Old Cat has a different idea of what requires a bath for sure.

Piper would likely understand the wisdom of our old dog.

Helena, MT(Zone 4b)

No need to tuck your nose under your tail when you've got a fleece to sleep on.

Taz didn't even last ten minutes. She decided there was absolutely nothing outside worth getting snow on her paws. Xavier is a bit miffed that the snow is covering his favorite potty and dustbath areas. He has a dim view of the litter box; it's sort of like a porta-john, only used in dire emergencies.

We've been out skiing through the neighborhood. There was a guy in the park throwing a toy for his dog but the poor dog was having trouble finding the toy in the snow.

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Apparently I've moved to a nearly snow-less location! Down the highway a bit there is snow, but not here. Here all we get is boring old cold, and not even dramatic cold, only 9 degrees cold.

bummer.

Katlian, that first pic of cat in snow is fabulous. Love the expression on the face: How could you have let me out in THIS ? hahaha

We could just call the thread Voldemort diversions and be done with it.

Denial should be a season with a full three months allotted to it just like the other four seasons. We could have a free choice feature as to which of the other seasons gets its months cut short in order to give the Season of Denial its proper share. For example, I would most likely take some of summer as well as some of winter but I imagine this would be an unpopular choice.

More snow here! That was about an hour ago. We are hoping for a lot!

About 6 inches here so far, still snowing!

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

At about 4:00 pm we had about 4 inches of snow and huge flakes were falling. I brought Kelsey and Raja from "el babysitting" . Yes, I learned that word from a person who doesn't speak English but who understands why dogs had to ago away while we were gone.
Las perritas were so excited to get home that they flew out the back door and conducted high speed chases of one another for an hour or two. They then came in and fell into deep sleep on the carpet.
We are all happy to be home -- DH and I from the funeral in Texas and las perritas from el babysitting..
I am not a fan of winter, but we are all so cozy tonight it is hard to imagine why.

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Sounds like a wonderful homecoming, Paj. Enjoy!

Helena, MT(Zone 4b)

Thank goodness you're home, PJ! Happy happy!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Welcome home dear paj, DH and puppies!

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Yes, Welcome home, Paja. Wishing you more peaceful days ahead.

Ennis, MT(Zone 4a)

Glad to see you back, Paj. Enjoy those happy dogs!

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

I am delighted to be home and so are Raja and Kelsey. They arrived home to discover about 5 inches of snow. Now there is a foot. They run out and romp around then come in to warm up -- then out they go again. They seem to really be enjoying being home and having snow to play in. DH and I are having a quiet warm day. Sigh. We needed that.

Dahlianut's Holiday Crafty Story
Being a tad dazed and confused, dahlianut entered a gift exchange where the gifter was to 'make' something for the giftee. She decided to make a toad from a prettiful stone. Unfortunately she accidently put ears on the toad and made it blue so it did not look at all like a toad but a deranged smurf so she decided to make something else. Next dahlianut tried to make a wonderous collage from pics of flowers and bees and stuff. Unfortunately she used too much glue and it was sore sticky. She 'fixed' this by putting some sparkley and satiny ribbons and wool bits on the gluey parts but alas it no longer looked like a collage but like a ratty placemat. Being now under EXTREME pressure to make postalguys holiday deadlines, dahlianut gathered some of her most extra special seeds and wrote a Holiday Poohum and vloped them up and mailed them off quick like a bunny. Today her vlope came back to her as there was no giftee address on the outside. The moral of the story is: postalling is more complex than making gifts.

ps I will bribe postal guy in vegas on tuesday with chocolate to send it licketysplit express to get it to the giftee on time.

Santa Fe, NM

Too funny! I think the blue toad with ears would be a fine gift, tho. I hope you didn't throw it out! Seeds are a good gift, too. You'll be in Vegas on Tuesday! Wow! You should go to a sports betting casino with horse races and bet on any horse that relates namewise in any way to blue, toad, or smurf. Or seeds. What might happen? ( I wouldn't bet much, but I would bet it! )

Gastonia, NC(Zone 7b)

Hmm. Maybe the fuzzy collage was meant to be habitat for the blue smurf-who-was-a-toad?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

It was all very confusing. It seemed at the time that toads SHOULD have ears even though they don't and it is blue because it was green and then I had a brilliant idea to make it 'glistening brown' but it turned blue. Maybe it is a chameleon and not a smurf-wannabe-toad? The fuzzy collage was too busybuzzy to even look at. It is no longer with us as it had to be removed from the house before it damaged someone's eyes.

Toads do have ears, just not visible ones. I have to agree with Roybird, a blue toad with visible ears would be a fine thing to possess. (Hint, hint.)

Helena, MT(Zone 4b)

Proposed changes for marketing purposes:
Textured Bling Garden Holiday Placemat
Creative Creatures Paperweight, Azure

But I bet the poem is the best of the three!

Helena, MT(Zone 4b)

Cross-posted, Dnut.
Ommm. I see toad travel happening inside a suitcase.
Criminee, how d'you explain that to U.S. customs?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Dear dave-who-is-dave believe it or not the deranged smurf has already been spoken for. It was asked for when I posted my story. Sorry I never thought you would like a deranged smurf-wannabe-toad (snorkel). I shall make you very own when I get back ^_^

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Good point picante about customsdude. Also is it legal to put a deranged smurf in the mail? For sure I better put 'smurf-wannabe-toad' on the 'contents' stickie.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7b)

Thank you dahlianut. Don't feel obligated. I just thought that if it needed a home ... I do have other similar treasures of a unique and unusual quality. I have a handmade blue, purple, and green Dolphin. Not something you find every day. It doesn't have visible ears though.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7b)

Just remember to say "No" when the mail guy asks you if the contents of the package are X, where X really doesn't matter.

Santa Fe, NM

Ack! We are finally going to get started re-painting our t.v. room or computer room or whatever it is! Dahlia, I want all the paint smell to be gone before you get here! I want it Finished by Sunday. Yes, I do. I'd better get on it. Ack!

Helena, MT(Zone 4b)

Now there's the sound of Motivation! LOL.

As long as the smurf-who-is-a-toad is not fragile, liquid, perishable, or potentially hazardous, it is USPS-legal. [They don't tell you this, but explosives are potentially hazardous.]

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7b)

What hits me is the number of companies that mail perishable food all over the country but the postal services still ask you and me if the contents are perishable. Perhaps it has to do with labeling, expided shipping, and perhaps verified packaging measures. I still send pies to my Dad for his birthday sometimes.
