Elephant's Foot (Dioscorea elephantipes)
Did this thing come out of a meteor and start eating human brains?
It is a fine specimen, a real stunning Dioscorea.
Wonderful!
Closeup of flowers. One snag with this plant is that it is dioecious (has male and female flowers on DIFFERENTplants) This means that you have to have BOTH plants in close proximity to get seeds; then you only get seeds on the female. Holly trees have the same set-up to this. From the look of the flowers (no stigma and plenty of stamens) my plant is male. Now I have to visit the couple of freinds to see if they have a female plant and establish breeding rites. What a hasstle!
