Web Hosting

Marietta, MS(Zone 7b)

I am looking for a good, cheap, web hosting site. Who do you use & why?

Thank you,

I use 1&1.
www.1and1.com

I have three web sites. Domain names come with them. Cheap & you can build your own websites.

www.countrygardensmn.com
www.berniescabinets.com

Bernie... I did mention to her that you used it... and i do recall it was less expensive than the one i use.

Do they have like a wysiwyg thing with it for easy web site making?

Very simple. Lots of fun too.

Actually, the easier they try to make things the harder it is for me :) I like to build my own site & upload it myself. Just need good, cheap hosting with ftp.

Anyone else use other web hosting sites? I would like to compare :)

That's exactly what you do on 1and1. Build the site, then upload it. Any time you feel like it, you can change something & upload the new site. Takes about 2 minutes to have a new site. If you feel like it you can work on changes for weeks & your site will be online. When you a ready, you hit upload & your new site is online.

I think this whole deal will cost you $4.99 a month.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Bernie... does that $4.99 include the domain name?

I pay 2.99 a month [35.88 yearly] plus the $12 for domain.

I feel less than 50bucks a year isn't too bad.

The plan I am on does, in fact 3 domain names & 3 web sites.

i do web hosting
and i highly recommend you purchase your domain name separate from the hosting
there are dozens of sites to purchase inexpensively, one of the largest is godaddy.
they are NOT very good at hosting
hosts who include the domain name also own the name, you don't
and if you ever have a hiccup in your payment you loose the domain name
this is the reason i got into hosting
a previous host lost my payment and my domain name was canceled
it cost $200.00 reinstatement fees which the host would not make good even when i showed them the paypal payment
after this happened twice
i became a host myself

Thank you Dick :) VERY good advice!

Many years ago, I toyed with the idea of hosting. Glad to hear you did it :)

Ok. So where do I purchase a domain name that will be my own? Do I have to purchase one or just register one? Thank you.

Be sure to pick a place that will rip you off.
Twice I have posted where to go to get a domain name.
I've had my domain names for years. Never heard of losing them.

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

I have to renew my domain name every year for a nominal fee. As long as you do that, you shouldn't lose it.

Marietta, MS(Zone 7b)

Nothing against you, CountryGardens. I am not just comparing prices. I want service also & if you notice on this page:

http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Hosting;jsessionid=1CA128A6B329E8F3117E16418828D25B.TCpfix142a?__frame=_top&__lf=Static&linkType=btn&linkOrigin=Home

it says "Included Domains As long as you keep your package" The price also jumps up quite a bit for a business web site... Looks like to me... But I don't know & that is why I am asking & wanting to compare. The $4.99 price goes up to $9.99 after 6 months.

So, see, I did take your advice and check them out. Just doesn't sound like what I am looking for.

Thank you,

ants

I am using Linux web Hosting from http://www.9cubehosting.com which offers me with unlimited space, bandwidth, MySQL databases etc.. at a cheap cost of $2.63 per month. This makes my site very secure and reliable with SSL certificates, SPAM filters and Virus protection.

I'm interested in this thread also.
This host has been recommended to me. http://icdsoft.com/ I can't recommend or not recommend based on personal experience.

What I look for is something that doesn't have so much front end that it gets in my way. I want to be able to create my site and Ftp it to the host. I also am biased toward an apache server on an Linux OS.
