This is a repotted portion of a neighbor's plant after I suggested he break it up into smaller portions (he thought it was "dying out"). In reality the pot was loaded with bulb-like stems, some of which were in a semi-dormant state, a few were totally dried up, and others had the spotted , somewhat fleshy leaves still attached to their bulbous base. When someone gives me the name I'll probably think "oh yeah, that's right, my mind is going..." Thank you in advance.
SOLVED: Need help identifying this potted plant
That is a bulb called Ledebouria socialis. Don't plant the bulbs any further down than about halfway. They want to be sticking up out of the soil.
Wow, this was my 2nd time using this forum and another correct ID in less than 15 minutes. And a genus/species I'd never heard of before, though I've seen the plant enough times that I felt like I should have been able to ID it. Thank you very much. Next time I'm going straight to Dave's Garden with a photo.
While I have a fairly narrow focus (cacti, succulents and the rarer bulbs), there are lots of people here who can not only ID plants in seconds but also practically tell you the GPS location of each of them. LOL! I don't see how they can know so many different kinds of plants so well, but they do. A kudos to all of them!
