Violets (the shy aromatics, NOT African)

Manhattan Beach, CA

Have asked the local nursery but they do not know what is causing the leaves to curl up tightly and inside is tiny white oval things - the only remedy I have is to remove affected leaves - has to be checked constantly. Is anyone else dealing with this?

Maybe leafrollers? Some pictures would help.

Thank you for the responses. I will check out the midge gall and here are pictures of the curled leaves and one of them uncurled to show the white dots - there were also black smaller dots today, which I had not seen before...

It is hard to see the second pic. but I think we are on the right track with midge gall and leaf rollers. The black dots may well be droppings from rollers.
