Goldenseal in Fruit Already

Cherry Grove, OH(Zone 6b)

Hydrastis canadensis

Photo taken 5/27, usually a mid-late summer fruiting plant, it's very early this year. I think these are attractive and interesting plants so I decided to share the photo. It's fairly common in the Ohio River valley, but often collected for it's medicinal rhizomes so you don't see it in well traveled areas. As far as I know the fruit is inedible.

That's a plant I don't have around here. Someday I will.

Neat looking plant - they are native here but very hard to find now.
