Suggestions for a good ground cover for a sunny, dry local

Lafayette, IN(Zone 5a)

I am looking for ideas for a good, thick growing (keep out weeds) ground cover for a sunny, dry (no irrigation) location . I live in Homestead. I am thinking about Nephrolepis varieties perhaps. The location is in full sun all day. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

lantana might work nicely. the trailing lantana seems to bloom more when it's somewhat cooler and dry.

Ornamental Peanuts. I have this in a big patch of my front yard in Jacksonville. It has pretty little yellow flowers and never needs mowing. You can actually run over it with a lawnmower and it's so low the blade doesn't touch it.
I got mine at Maggie's Herbs close to St Augustine.
They said it was also a pest cure for lice on birds. The birds sort of wallow in it if they have lice.
I haven't seen any birds doing that, but they may not have lice. LOL
Anyhow it's a great ground cover.
