Rose bushes

Edinboro, PA(Zone 5a)

I have some very old rosť bushes I inherited. The bushes look healthy, but have never bloomed. I don't know what kind they are just that they are more than 20 years old. Any help?

Have they been fertilized? I especially like Espoma, Rose-Tone.

Quick question - did you prune them this spring? If they are once blooming antique roses, they bloom once a year in the early summer, and if you prune them you are cutting off the flowers.

I use Rose-Tone, too. Great stuff. Some compost would be nice as well.

Thanks for all the info. I prune them hard in the spring before thy even leaf out. I haven't fed them though, just some miracle grow once in awhile. I'll try feeding. The compost is always in the garden bed

When should I prune them.

I think that they may be once bloomers, and that you are in fact cutting off the potential blooms every spring. That would explain why they look healthy but don't bloom.

I suggest that you stop pruning them. My once bloomers are pruned in spring after bloom. Then there are just composted and fed for the next year's display.

ahhhh I'll take that advice, thanks
