How can I find Nepeta (Joanna Reed) seeds?

Alexandria, VA

I've just bought a 5 acre property and I'd like to replace the grass near my house (about 600 square feet) with Nepeta Joanna Reed (both because this species is larger than most nepeta plants, and because it is rabbit resistant!)

I can't seem to find seeds anywhere. Is this because of the time of year, or because they are categorically impossible to find?

I bought a large grow light from Burpee that will allow me to grow several hundred plants. I just need to find the seed!

Thank you

It's a sterile plant. So, you would have to take cuttings. I have taken cuttings from Nepeta and they have rooted rather easily.
Or, you could settle for a different Nepeta that does produce seed.
Sorry, hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Of course! Thank you. I had read that in several places, but it didn't register until you mentioned it. North Creek Nurseries sells this as a 72-cell plug (they must use cuttings!) Maybe I can get it from them.

Sounds like a good idea. Good luck on those plants.
