In the early summer I had planted viola seeds (johnny jump ups) into a regular flower pot and they are now happily blooming. I know they self seed, but will these existing plants winter over? If I leave them in the pot and mulch them well for the winter, will they come back next spring?
Over wintering violas?
I have not tried to overwinter them in pots but they are a perennial plant so I think it is well worth a try. I would be interested in knowing how this comes out.
In your zone, it will probably work - Viola tricolor is extremely hardy and virtually indestructible. If you have any doubts, you could just sink the pot into the ground (assuming you have a yard).
