How to Dye Curtains

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Just moved recently to our new home.
The bedroom has light blue cotton 63" curtains. No backing just slid on rod. I want to dye them purple, but I have never dyed anything before? I have a spare washing machine that I us to launder old rags and work clothes, should I use it for the process? I want to change the color of the curtains from light blue to a dark purple.

What do I purchase?
How is it done?
Any help appreciated.

I have no idea, but I think you're on the right track. I'd use plenty of dye and ample room for the material to not be bunched up so it goes on evenly. I guess you can buy good old RIT at stores but on the web you might find something better, in a not-quite boring 'primary' purple.

Been checking only to discover the curtains are 100% polyester and can't be dyed. Dang.

You are on the right track. I also dye once but it is a towel..then it turns out good..

This all depends upon the color and fiber of the curtains you are using.
