Been conditioning my bales about 2 1/2 weeks & finally planted one of my 10 bales this evening. Planted two burpless cucumbers. My bales are Standlee straw bales & they are super compressed. It makes planting in them quite difficult. Anyone know any tricks to make it easier?? Plan on planting everything else tomorrow. Sure am excited & hope all of them do well.
Planted my first straw bale!!
SB garden is doing very well. The sb's are holding up very nicely against the onslaught of rain we have received in my part of Texas. Tomatoes are growing great & several plants already have fruit. Cukes, cayennes, pole beans, zucchini, & peppers are progressing nicely as well.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this first try at SB gardening continues to be success. Really liking it.
Welcome Aboard the Straw Bale Express!
You're doing a great job.
Thank you Kent for the welcome. Your posts & others on this forum have helped me have a great SB garden on my first attempt.
The rain just keeps falling here in my part of Texas. It has not affected my SB garden negatively at all.
Have been enjoying the fresh vegetables & my kiddos have learned a lot about gardening. I enjoy watching their excitement as the vegetables they helped plant grow & get picked. Here are a few pictures.
