I have read conflicting reports about this plant. Some say it must be started from stems and another says it's started from seed. Which is right?

Anecdotal reports indicate that this plant is far more commonly propagated from cuttings rather than from seed. Presumably this is because the success rate with cuttings is relatively high, but may also mean that propagating from seed is unreliable and/or slow. Assuming my own plants will go to inflorescence and subsequently seeds, I will collect and attempt to germinate them, which should provide insight.
