iPod video viewing on computer

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

My problem...............I video'd fireworks last night with my iPod..............when I went to view it on the computer it's sideways. I held the iPod in the "portrait" way.............long way up/down instead of holding it sideways. (actually didn't think it would make a difference..........thought it would be viewable in the way you held it when the video was made). The pictures I took with it also came up in the "landscape" view, but those I could turn by right-clicking and then rotating. It is very weird trying to watch the video sideways. If I right click on the video in my folder where I have it stored, that option does not come up. What to do, what to do???? Any ideas? Or am I stuck with turning my head????

You found out the hard way too... Never, ever record in portrait mode is the mantra cry of video enthusiasts.

Anyway you can reorient your video with software but it will take the original and create a new file in a format you may or may not like. I use Movie Maker that came along with Windows. You may have to download it if you have a new computer with Win10 though (it is free). It won't fix the perspective but at least the orientation will be correct. There are probably other software video editors out there that will reorient it better than Movie Maker but then you'd have to buy the software.

Good luck and don't forget to ALWAYS record in landscape mode going forward.

Yes, I do have Windows Movie Maker.

And I won't do anything in other than Landscape..............LOL

I posted that question on this forum the same time I put it on PUAC..........I didn't doubt your answer, June.

Now, if I could just figure out how to make it "turn" on Movie Maker. The icons are there, but I haven't seen how to highlight them so they WILL turn the way I want. *sigh*..........It's terrible being so dumb.

LOL. I know you usually ask in several places. Does Movie Maker have a user forum? Often folks in user forums have had similar experiences.

Well, I'm just probably not doing something in the order it is supposed to be done. LOL I should probably ask DS#2's GF.......she uses Movie Maker quite a bit.

Let the movie load into Movie Maker first which may take several seconds depending on how big the file is. Once it is done then you should be able to rotate left or right. Then save it in a folder of your choosing (else it will pick some default folder or your last folder you saved a file to) with a file name that makes sense. You can also save it with different sizes for email, computer, Hi-Def, etc.
