Please help me ID this elusive loner sitting in a field.
Tree from N Thailand, tropical savanna climate zone.
My best guess would be a Shorea sp. in family Dipterocarpaceae. They are often dominant in Thailand's monsoonal woodlands. The leaf shape, texture and veining seem a reasonable fit, but I cannot be confident.
I counted shorea out because the leaf veins of shorea are almost straight, not nearly so curved and consistently parallel. And shorea leaves are raised between the veins like dipterocarpus spp.
