Animals disturbing crocus flowers?

I planted crocuses in my lawn for the first time last fall. Since then, I've been eagerly awaiting their appearance. We had warm weather over the weekend but nothing appeared in the lawn. Yesterday morning, I found three crocus flowers laying on the sidewalk in front of my house. Anyone have experience with animals disturbing crocus blooms? Squirrels maybe?
I also found a half-eaten peanut butter sandwich nearby so the alternate explanation is that my neighbor's pothead kids had something to do with it. Thoughts?

I vote for the potheads. Squirrels and such are notorious for eating some kinds of crocus, but it seems very unlikely that the blooms would be moved by them.
