Riprap and wildflower seeds

Tall Timbers, MD

I back up to water and have a line of riprap along the water (if relevant, the water is brackish). I bought some wildflower seeds and wondered if it's possible to scatter them throughout the riprap. Do you think it's possible that they'd plant themselves within the cracks? Will these somehow heave the rocks out of place? Is this invasive and a bad idea? I wanted to give my pollinators some flowers where I can. Thanks so much!

Some plants like cracks and crannies in rock. They would have to wash down until they found a little soil.
Yes, perhaps it is invasive and bad. It depends on whether you own the whole body of water, or it feeds to/from a natural area, and whether the seed is native flowers for your state/region. Some generic wildflower mixes contain things that are on the noxious weed list in certain areas.
