Wall hanging Block Mini-Swap

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

This is a block swap of a total of 4 blocks.
I think we need one more person necessary for it - Betty, Linda Kay, Susan have said they would. I think it may be more "even" if we have 4. This should be quick & easy.
You make 4 identical squares, send 3 to each of the other 3 in the group & keep one yourself.
Now, do we want it Christmas, Themed (nature, family, city, etc) or Seasonal?
Let's find one more person to join, and decide on the type/size. Blocks can be anywhere from 9" to 12" finished, but they must all be the same.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep Iím in, my favorite is Christmas (because I have mega fabric) but Iím ok with whatever everyone decides

(Linda Kay) Del Rio, TX(Zone 9a)

Any theme is ok with me, but I like the 12 & 1/2 inch finished block. If this is for Christmas, I prefer traditional true red and green colors. I don't care for the new Christmas fabrics coming out that are teal and red, or mint green

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I agree, about Christmas colours - I'm a traditional person, too.
Shall we go with just the three of us, or wait a few more days & see if anyone else wants to join? I'm ok either way.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Maybe Karen or Pat would like to join in..4 would be better

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I've sent a message to Pat - maybe she would like to. It might be therapeutic in the midst of chaos.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

This needn't be a wall hanging - it could be 4 pillows, part of a lap quilt, or part of a larger quilt - your creativity has no limit :-)

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

btw - I won't be chatting (I don't think) on Thurs or Friday, because we'll be out of town. The hours we're working @ the Casino are: Thurs 11am-7pm, and Friday 11am-8pm. This is a fundraiser for our Wellness Centre in our little hamlet. I'll either be online late Friday, or Saturday morning. It's an hour drive each way to town.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Enjoy..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

YES!!! we pick the colors? Or will all us of us work in the same colors?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

OK, now I read the whole thing...LOL. What ever you all decide. Traditional Christmas is fine with me. Christmas is ALWAYS a good theme. I can add them to my block collection. (notice I didn't say MAKE into something? LOL)

(Linda Kay) Del Rio, TX(Zone 9a)

Glad to have you join us Pat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Excited Pat you can join in,

So letís take a vote

Iím for xmas

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LOL Pat - add to your collection, indeed - whatever works for you!!
Welcome to the group!!

It sounds to me like everyone's saying Christmas is fine with them, so I'll agree.
Let's say, we get them mailed out by June 18th (one month from today) and we should get them within a month of that day (because of border crossing it will take awhile). I'm so excited!!

I've got to go get packed up at the hotel then on to work at the Casino. Chat with you ladies on Saturday when we're home!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will get them out next week

Iíll send you 4 santaís To make a little hanging...I would say the blocks are 10Ēx12Ē
If itís clear enough in photo let me know whic 4 you each want

Any of them will work. Can you cut the fabric to maybe 13 inches, then we can trim to size? If not, I can make the borders bigger.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will see

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

My favorites If you count from left to right, then on to 2nd row, left to right, etc
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9, then my preference would be 1,3 6 & 7 BUT frankly any of them will be great!!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

My preference is 12.5 inch blocks but I don't mind adding borders to them to size if need be. I think I'm going to look for Red & Green Santa print to incorporate into the blocks.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ok, I'm going to make a Christmas Star block - 12.5"
Got the pattern from Quilter's Cache
It won't be exactly like this, but close enough :-)

That is a beautiful block.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Cutting it out now.
everything x 4 lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I remember that block!!! I have been meaning to give it a go. Might yet!! It would be a fun one to show case a fussy cut block in the center.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

So many options for it, eh Pat?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

truly, way back when I first saw this block I felt it was quite a bit beyond my reach in skills. Not so much now!

(Linda Kay) Del Rio, TX(Zone 9a)

Are we making 3 or 4 blocks for each person?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

We'll make 4 blocks, send one to each of the other 3 people, and keep one for ourselves. That way we'll each end up with 4 blocks.

(Linda Kay) Del Rio, TX(Zone 9a)

Sounds good.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

easy to do, too. I have all 4 cut out, now....... trying to figure out the speed piecing

Victoria Harbour, ON

Girls from Ohio left a few hours ago, we had a fantastic time,

Did some travelling, went to Niagara Falls and niagara on the lake, even had crafting time, each made a Xmas tree, Christmas embroidered Santa, bird feeder and placemats

They no sooner left my sister called, really needs to go stateside for fabric, still boycotting and told her no..she is begging lol

Iíll get myself organized in a few days and start on blocks

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Why are you boycotting?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Political,

Too funny, girls wanted to go to timmies but on my boycut list as well so we didnít go
When I put out coffee pods there were 2 timmies from a long time ago, girls wouldnít drink them lol

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh oh......... some companies are in TWUBBLE - I'd watch out if I were them. No one should get our Betty mad at them!!!!!!
hehehehe teasing you Betty - just couldn't resist, doncha know?!?!?!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yep, bad Juju!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I finished my 1st of 4 blocks
I don't think the colours are quite right - the green is a bit darker

Pretty block.lots of tiny pieces.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

It is really pretty !! I have not decided my block yet.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It seems like lots of tiny pieces, but once I got my head around the sewing, I realized it's fairly simple. It was "speed piecing" and it was easier than I thought. I did it in a couple of hours. Each block will get easier. It was easier than the Maple Leaf I did, and that was large pieces.
