Do you plant for wildlife?
I first planted sunflowers unaware of how much the finches around here like them. (They practically hang upside-down to get at the full seed-heads.) Now, I plant them for the birds specifically, and just reserve a section of my garden for plants meant to attract/feed birds/butterflies/bees/etc. The only pests I've ever had to do battle with were tomato hornworms and turtles, though... The deer never bothered.
I have 5 acre garden on a hillside. Have terraces with shrubs & wildflowers. Wildlife habitat year around.
I grow many plants and I am a 'hobby botanist' I grow the plants I like and all wildlife is welcome.
We don't plant specifically for wildlife but birds like it here.
