SOLVED: What is this ground cover?

Saint Petersburg, FL

This started growing in my yard several years ago and has spread all over. We actually like it, it thrives with mowing because it grows low and thick if mowed, and it's a bright green color.

Our yard is overgrown and wild and all kinds of things volunteer out there. We live in a rental house that we plan on leaving soon, so we do very little to the back yard, except a few planters around the patio.

Tradescantia fluminensis?

Saint Petersburg, FL

I don't think so. It's not like any type of trandescantia I've ever seen before. It's not a soft textured plant; it's tougher in texture, like a grass. I've never seen it bloom. It will grow a bit bigger and taller than this picture shows, where it's not mowed down.

Try checking Oplismenus undulatifolius or Oplismenus hirtellus (Basketgrass).
