What kind of spider is this?

It's a harmless (to humans, that is) orb weaver. I cannot be certain from this ventral view (spiders are far easier to identify from a combination of dorsal and frontal - showing the eye pattern - views), but a likely candidate is Eriophora transmarina - see https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1a/Eriophora_transmarina_underside_at_night.jpg
