My friend gave me seeds for this climbing vine that she got in St. Simons Island GA. Can anyone tell me what it is? And, can you tell me the best way to care for it? Photo of it shows it in her backyard in Toronto (garden zone 7a).
SOLVED: What is the name of this climbing vine?
Yes, but go big. At least eight to ten gallons. Your challenge will be heat and light. They like both. Start indoors about four weeks before soil temp is 50F. They don't like their roots disturbed so plant in a biodegradable container such as peat or paper. They are not fussy about soil. Transplant six or eight and thin to no more than four. Flowers, vines & leaves are attractive but the dark purple pods are the real standout. Mine cover a rustic wood entry and grow to 15ft. Attractive to butterflies and hummers. You'll be doing well to get 6-8ft. in your short season. Good luck!
