SOLVED: Is this a plant or a magnificent weed?

Cambria, CA

For almost a year this plant with very long thin leaves was just being there. I assumed it was some kind of bulb so just waited. Suddenly it started getting very tall. The bud shown in the photo got chomped down that night by deer. Then multiple stems appeared with more buds like that. Then finally at the top, the flower! A little more than 2" across when fully open. That could be gone tomorrow. I have the plant covered. It's about 3 ft tall with about 7 upward stems with buds starting to form. The flower closes completely back up at dusk. So intriguing!

I'm thinking it is Salify (Tragopogon porrifolius)

When I first saw the buds..I thought I had an okra plant..haha! Nope!
Here's a picture of another of the flowers..looks a little different. Interesting. Thank you for your input. I will check that out. Is it a plant then? or weed?
