Heirloom Plant? ID

Cape Elizabeth, ME

Here's a perennial I am trying to identify should anyone have any insight. This came from a home in MA and I'm told has been there since the early 1900's (my mother's home). I'm told it is a single bloom that can bloom twice a summer. The pink flower grows on a single flower stock coming from the root section. Distinguishing characteristics, red color at the base of each leaf stem, striations on main plant stems. Anyone know what this is? (it's not currently in bloom and I am traveling soon so I may miss it).

Knotweed, smart weed, some form of Persicaria/Polygonum (probably pensylvanicum)
