SOLVED: Unknown Florida plant / straw flower

Ocala, FL(Zone 9a)

I say it's a Florida plant, but we encountered it in a pot, at Uncle Sam's plant house (old man widower living surrounded by gazillion plants in his wonderfully disorganized and amazing yard in Tavares, FL).

The leaves are green on the top, and purple underneath. Once a year, they produce little straw balls - offwhite. Growing habit is up and bush-ish without the stiffness. Not sure what else to say.

Try Alternanthera dentata which has many cultivars to choose from.
