SOLVED: Flower ID please

Vancouver, Canada

This purple flower grows in gardens in Vancouver Canada. The plant is about 4 to 5 feet in height and has woody stems. The stem branches and purple flower heads appear at the top of each branch. The leaves are lance shaped, narrow and leathery in appearance. One photo shows the purple flowers. The second (fuzzy) photo shows the woody stems and lance shaped leaves - ignore the tear drop shaped purple flowers in the background as they are on a different plant.

I think it may be tall verbena. Maybe?

Heerlen, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Itís Verbena bonariensis. Usualy a longflowering annual that seeds around. Seedlings can be very welcome and are easy to pick up.
