Last evening I saw this one in my garden, hovering near a hole in the compound wall. Which is this one? A variety of fly? And it was doing some unusual thing - see what it is doing.... is it its reproductive organ protruding out of of the tip of the abdomen?
Brownish Fly?
This is a fly in the act of laying an egg (ovipositing), but the images are not clear enough for identification. I especially need to see its wing veins clearly. That aside, I would include a soldier fly (Stratiomyidae) as a possibility.
I could get only these two better shots, Flap. Light was poor towards the late evening. That first picture was the only one I could capture from above with wings settling on one another. Doing a general search 'soldier fly' and finding mostly larva pictures! But there are other colour insect images and none of this colour. Will have to see if it visits again.
