I took this shot of the underside of a large fist-sized mushroom on a golf course in southern CA. Any idea of the type and what are those colorful pearl-like objects between its gills?
SOLVED: Mushroom spores?
I can't identify the mushroom but mushroom spores are microscopic. There is a complex process where mushrooms produce sugar droplets between their gills. Those are observable. The sugar molecules attract water from the surrounding air and at some point this triggers the release of spores. At least that's the way I recall learning about the process.
