Texas Panhandle families

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Ancestors on both maternal and paternal sides of my family left the South during Reconstruction and migrated to the Texas panhandle region, primarily because the railroads were offering land and a means to transport agricultural products to market.(Later most of them relocated to Indian Territory.) In 1957 the City of Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto County, celebrated its centennial, and the newspaper compiled an amazing collection of early pioneer stories with pictures, dates and fascinating narratives. My brother and I were able to positively identify one set of great-great-grandparents. Whether or not you have ancestors in Texas I invite you to look in - - it is a great read. Yuska
