We just had 4 days of 60 F or better and the alpines are finally starting to pop (mind you we are suppose to have snow on Monday!) More Kabschia Saxifrages are blooming. This is Saxifraga 'Iranica'. Snails got at it the little stinkers.
Mid-May alpines (and small plants)
That daphne is beautiful! I have a few daphne but don't have a cneorum. My retusa is just starting to show colour in the buds. Kabschias do not like hot weather...most books suggest growing them on a north-face but I can get away with full-sun in my area as it never gets baking hot.
Well guys I'm off to southern Alberta for 2 weeks. Hoepfully I won't miss too much while gone. I hope to come back with some early alpine flower pictures from the foothills of the Rockies. I'll post them when I get back.
Have a great time, Todd, and take LOTS of pictures for us, please!
your lewisia is pretty, but you'll have to wait for someone who know something for identity LOL love the little columbine, too.
Those are such healthy happy plants Galanthephile! I don't know which lewisia but
its wonderful! And that white pulsatila is so robust & full of bloom. Wonderful. Glad
you joined us! Can't wait to see more of your pictures.
I see you haven't removed that reversion back to solid green leaves yet on Nifty Thrifty. Do it now, remvove the flowers, and I'll bet you can re root it.
that is definitely the tiniest veronica I've ever seen. it's darling! great blue color, too.
it's really bugging you that I haven't done anything about that green reversion on the armeria, isn't it? I hated to disturb it last fall when it was newly planted and had the whole winter to get thru. I'll take care of it now...promise...alpine scout's honor LOL
Todd - gorgeous photos - every single one of them. Love the 'Salmoni' saxifrage :-)
Galanthophile - wonderful photos as well :-) Looks like Lewisia cotyledon to me - but if you're looking for a variety name - I'm stumped ;-) lol
Gram - your veronica is gorgeous - please keep me in mind if you get seeds ;-) lol
Leftwood - that is one tiny veronica!! Very cute :-)
My pulsatillas are all tiny still since I've raised them all from seed. This is the first one to give me more than one or two flowers :-) Pulsatilla vulgaris.
Rann, thanks. I will definitely try to save some seed from the veronica. same from me for the pulsatilla. I would love some if you get any.
Tam, very pretty lewisia. I love it with the little geranium. ps thanks for the wide shot :0)
