Kaelkitty's Journal: JFC0514 Dolichothele beneckei (balsasoides)

Initial Notes:

Acquired in a 6cm pot in 1980 as Dolichothele balsasoides. Repotted (into the same pot?) with my soil mix. Died in October 1981.

This is a very unusual Dolichothele - the one plant I have seen in the genus which seems to form a bridge to Mammillaria (sensu strictu). The flowers are large and yellow, as is normal for Dolicothlele, but the body of the plant has short rounded tubecules and dark hooked central spines - pretty, but weird! This plant is smaller than the type, with lighter and fewer spines, but distictively more orange toned flowers.
