EDIBLE PLANTS WANT LIST:
Any Hungarian edible seeds or plants, except hot peppers. I will trade crafts (seed envelopes or illustrations for them I'd be game to try, seed stakes I guess, soap, sewing, embroidery, jewelry - I could sew earrings even, etc) or baking or possibly other things too if you're interested (ex: illustration, webdesign, I can make & draw on stickers but not waterproof). I can translate to/from Hungarian, including recipes or guiding you through a Hungarian seed catalog (but I don't think you could order from it to other countries, still might be helpful to see the varieties).

Also any bi-color tomato (red and yellow inside) especially small/cherry ones, multicolor beans with unusual patterns, unusual peas. I also love a cool seed history - especially if it's a several hundred year old variety, or native to this or that country, original Iroquois beans or corn or Mendel's monk peas or something like that.

The peas I want most are shelling peas with unusual colored pods and/or seeds, like purple, yellow, or red. Most purple peas are soup peas (which is fine) but many purples are kind of bitter when raw! And I don't really like eating pea pods - every one I've tried has been stringy, snow and snap peas included. But I LOVE shelling peas.

ORNAMENTAL PLANTS WANT LIST:

Maryland native flowers and plants from the Piedmont and Coastal Plains region. http://www.nps.gov/plants/pubs/
nativesmd/lists.htm#piedmont ; host and nectar plants for native butterflies

Star-Trek and space or sci-fi/fantasy themed plants

Irises! Especially if they look like what they smell like (i.e. purple and smells like grape koolaid, brown and smells like root beer).

Aquilegia Species
Aquilegia canadensis

The columbine species native to this region (Eastern columbine / Canadian columbine).
Seeds, Plants, Cuttings Image
(PlantFiles)
Asclepias Species
Asclepias tuberosa

Planted at old house, now the new house needs some. (Also native here.)

Capsicum annum
Ok, almapaprika = "apple pepper", they are ROUND and FLAT. They're like a cheese/really flat bell pepper. Somebody put a wrong featured picture (that is a Hungarian pepper and good for stuffing too, just isn't almapaprika), or maybe used an incorrect name for the variety in America. However, it is the right color. Almapaprika are a very very pale yellow and not very sweet, usually somewhat spicy but not always, and used for stuffing - and stuffing with cabbage then pickling.

Chelone Species
Chelone glabra

Baltimore checkerspot butterfly's host plant. This butterfly is endangered in Maryland, and is the state butterfly. I'm not sure that this plant, or this butterfly, really lives in my exact area (I've heard no for both) even though I'm in the right region type for the plant.

Convallaria
Convallaria majalis

My grandmother's favorite flower was lily of the valley, and she lived in Hungary. (Note to self: this is European kind. American kind is Convallaria montana.) I'd like any kind of lily of the valley but white the most, it's classic. This stripey one just has really cool leaves!
'Variegata' Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs, Cuttings Image
(PlantFiles)
Cucumis
Cucumis sativus

A burpless cucumber would be nice (like this one). Patio cucumbers would be nice too. Are there burpless patio/dwarves? This one is supposed to be mostly female flowers, maturing in only 45 days, and resistant to common cucumber diseases. (Is it an F1 hybrid?)
'Sweet Slice' Seeds, Plants, Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Scallop Squash
Cucurbita pepo

Hungary has the white kind. I love patty pans a lot, they look like UFOs and they're hands down the most adorable squash.
'Early White Bush Scallop' Seeds, Plants, Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Straightneck Squash
Cucurbita pepo

Any kind of vegetable marrow summer squash is fine. I want the Hungarian kinds the most, which is a White Marrow.
'Vegetable Marrow Bush' Seeds, Plants

Zucchini
Cucurbita pepo

This is Lebanese White Bush Vegetable Marrow Squash. Any combination of those names works I guess. Very similar or the same to the Hungarian version. I want the white vegetable marrows the most.

Scallop Squash
Cucurbita pepo

Hungary has the white kind. Patty pans are hands down the most adorable squash. These seeds aren't that hard to get and maybe I even have some, but I just really wanted to look at it in my list hahaha. Anyway the seeds I have are probably old, I'd always be happy with more.

Cucurbita pepo L.
Hungarian vegetable marrow, white marrow. Lebanese white bush is very similar or the same.
'Spárgatök' Seeds, Plants Image

Echinacea
Echinacea

I used to have one several moves ago. (I hope this is Echinacea purpurea but maybe it's another species.)

Erythronium Species
Erythronium americanum

Maryland native flower to this area.

Ficus Species
Ficus carica

We used to have figs. They survive here too (many figs are zone 7-10), we are border of zone 7a and 6b. But the occasional hard winter here kills them. Any kind of zone 6 or 7 fig would be cool.

Common Fig
Ficus carica

We used to have figs. They survive here too (many figs are zone 7-10), we are border of zone 7a and 6b. But the occasional hard winter here kills them. This is another one that can survive zone 6.

Common Fig
Ficus carica

Someone had it in a cold hardy list but it isn't really, just 7-10 like normal? I think I saw it be yellow and green striped but that must have been a different cultivar.

Hemerocallis

Did someone watch a lot of Star Trek DS9 or does this cultivar name mean something else too?

I'll trade crafts or baking or maybe other things if you're interested.

Tall Bearded Iris
Iris

It smells like root beer, AND it's brown! You can't beat that. Thanks, Schreiner. (I just moved and don't have many plants. I'm handy with a number of crafts and baking if you're interested in that kind of thing.)
'Gingersnap' Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs Image

Miniature Tall Bearded Iris
Iris

Another sci-fi themed thing? Maybe not on purpose.

And it's cute, too! I've never seen a gray flower before. (Oh, it's actually light brown but still cute. Now I wonder if gray flowers exist.)

Tall Bearded Iris
Iris

I want this the most out of anything. I used to have some, but after surviving two years of people stealing my newly planted, newly blooming mystery iris from a farmer's market grab bag (which made me research it and fall in love!) and then 3+ years of having no garden, ants drilled a hole in the rhizome when I planted it. I have moved again recently; I don't have many plants. I am handy with a number of crafts and baking if you feel like trading for that kind of thing.
'Wabash' Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs Image

Gold-Variegated Sweet Iris
Iris pallida

Flowers are purple and smell like grape soda! Can come in "gold" striped and "silver" (white) striped.
'Variegata' Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs
(PlantFiles)
Lathyrus
Lathyrus sativus

I added this entry and it has a really awesome electric blue flower on top of a cool name and possible backstory. I'd grow it. Even though I'd rather grow edible peas.
'King Tut' Seeds Image

Lindera Species
Lindera benzoin

Native to this area, spicebush swallowtail butterfly host plant.

Lithops

I want any and every kind of lithops, a mix of kinds is even better. I can trade for crafts or baking or maybe other things if you're interested.

Asparagus Pea
Lotus tetragonolobus

Asparagus pea, winged red pea - a different species from peas and beans but related. Seeds must be boiled for 2-3 hours to break down bean toxins (in Psophocarpus tetragonolobus anyway - winged bean). All parts of plant edible?

Tomato
Lycopersicon lycopersicum

Intensely bi-color tomato, a cross of Big Rainbow and Green Zebra by Brad Gates from Wild Boar Farms. It's very pink (and yellow) inside and has striped skin, not just randomly streaked. -tomatogrowers.com

<3 I don't think I can get it here, I'm just putting this as a note to myself to remember. There is only one commercial seller of these, as it's a family heirloom. Stripey flesh and stripey outside.
