House sparrows are very common birds. Unfortunately they tend to displace native and song birds. This photo is a frame from my iPhone movie of last week's snow storm. Obviously the cardinal isn't intimidated by this sparrow.

The adult bird has characteristic black on white scale-like marks on breast and cinnamon head and wing, young bird is brownish beige.
Big flock of them visited my backyard 3-4 years ago. Last year I've seen also some.
I was told they must escape somewhere from cage and established in the wild.
