Caraway Sauerkraut

2 lbs. cabbage, shredded
3 Tbsp. butter
1 onion, chopped
1 large apple, sliced
salt and pepper
1 potato, grated
1/4 c. caraway seeds
1/2 c. white wine

Melt butter in a large saucepan; turn cabbage in butter thoroughly. Add onion, apple, and seasonings to taste. Fill pan with water. Cook until tender about 10 minutes. Add grated potato and caraway seeds. Add wine before serving. Champagne may be substituted
for white wine. Serves 4.

  Extra Notes  
Particularly good with venison, or wild bird.
