Category: Soups and sandwiches

6 C. all purpose flour
1/4 C. baking powder
4 tsp. salt
1 1/3 C. shortening
2 C. quick oats-uncooked

In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until the mix looks like crumbs. Stir in oats. Store mix in airtight container for quick use anytime.
To make dumplings for small pot (2-6 quarts), mix 2 cups of mix with one cup of milk. Spoon onto boiling soup or stew and cook uncovered on low heat for ten minutes. Put lid on pan and cook an additional ten minutes. Ready to serve. Makes about 10 dumplings. Recipe can be doubled or tripled.

  Extra Notes
For my family of six, and a ten quart pot of soup, I always double the dumpling mix. This recipe is excellent for Chicken and Dumplings. Dumplings are large and fluffy.
