Our photo contest is a long-running tradition
Yes, it's that time again, one of the longest-running internet photo contests is live and ready for your images. We started this with less than 50 entries back in 2001 and it has grown and changed over the years. Some time ago, we started publishing a calendar with the winning images and that has been a huge success. We are proud to say that the Photo Contest is one of the highlights of the year and is highly anticipated by our membership.

How you can enter your photos
We have some especially talented photographers here and we love to show off their work. Most of us are simply garden variety folks who love to snap images and we are so thankful for their lovely photographs. We feature diverse categories that make sure that everyone finds a niche to enter. We love to see your best roses, your butterflies and even your pets. The link to the contest page is here and if you have trouble accessing it, contact our helpdesk and we'll try to fix things for you. You will need to be a registered member; it doesn't matter if you are a free access member or a paid subscriber, anyone can enter. You'll also need to be logged in. We'll be happy to help you set up a profile or help you log back in if you've been away for a bit. Enter between now and 8pm October 17th. Voting will start on the 18th and run through 8pm Pacific Time on October 31st. We will notify the winners through our D-Mail system.

Voting on the images
You can enter up to two images in each category and when the submission period has ended, all of the photographs will go live for the entire population of the garden to vote on their favorites. By waiting until the entries have closed for the images to go live, gives everyone an equal chance during the viewing and voting period. Even if you aren't handy with a camera, you can still participate by voting.

What do the winners receive?
As stated, winners are featured on our 2020 calendar and the image with the most votes overall gets the distinction of gracing the cover. Winners also receive a one year subscription to DG and second and third place runners-up receive six months and two months respectively. The calendars will be available on the Zazzle website and everyone is welcome to purchase them for themselves or gifts.
