We've lived for 35 years in McAllen, Texas and these charming jurassic-looking thicket loving birds have always come around. We feed them bananas, cooked rice and an occassional flour tortilla. Mainly ground birds, they are FAST on their feet and are loud when calling out their territory. Yes, this old part of town has quite a few pods of Chachalacas. They come to our patio door now, and wait till we come out to give them a treat. At night they roost across the alley in our neighbors trees.
