Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)

The bird that inspired me to become a birdwatcher!

two for the price of one

Spotted mid-January in an Oak in my yard.(female)

A pair of Pileated Woodpeckers just 10 feet from our front door. The male is on top, female on bottom.

This fellow visits a lot and sometimes flies from tree to tree circling all the way around me.

A Pileated woodpecker drumming on an old tree in the dead of winter 2010. Northeastern Oklahoma.

This bird is really a sight to behold. This picture was taken out my dirty front door window. Been watching it for 3 years. Finally came close enough.
