"I remember when I was dithering over whether to buy this Aspidistra elatior 'Milky Way', the nursery owner assured me this plant was capable of dealing with any types of soil, poor light, warm or cool temperatures and even the most inhospitable conditions. “This is a never-die plant,” he guaranteed. Hence its nickname, Cast Iron Plant. I have had this slow-growing plant in the same spot for almost 10 years, requiring little attention and effort from me, even though the soil looks quite compacted.
