This is a hybrid, D. buccinatoria x D. laxiflora. A large, vigorous, fast-growing evergreen vine with lavender flowers (having yellow throats) from spring into fall. Climbs by tendrils with an adhesive pad that's self-clinging---the pads leave scars on painted surfaces when removed. In time the trunk grows thick and beautifully twisted.

Requires a great deal of pruning, several times a year, as it shades out its older growth which turns brown and unsightly.

Both Kew and the Missouri Botanic Garden now consider the genus name to be Amphilophium
