Mine has been growing happily in a large planter for 5 years in the Puget Sound area. Beautiful open branching shape with fascinating color changes from spring through fall. Truly a favorite Japanese maple.

It's not a beauty queen most of the year, but the fall color is spectacular, with a range of rich orange-red colors. Despite the light color of the leaves, mine has not burned in the summer sun.

Acer palmatum 'Aka shigit.sawa' SAMURAI MAPLE Dec (z6) (Bon)
An unusual color combination: new 7-10 lobed leaves open maroon changing to green with dark veins & tones of pink & red washed over all; a slow-growing shrub, eventually to 8-12'. PSh/Med

Spectacular! The spring leaves emerge maroon, but as the season progresses, the leaves turn yellow-green with pink and red overtones and dark veins. The fall colour is not as good as many Japanese Maples. This selection will reach about 4 m. It belongs to the Palmatum Group.
